Anthony Jeselnik San Diego Concert reviews
Beck and Clapton at the Garden
The show started at 8 right on time, with many seats still empty. Beck sounded great, a virtuoso. A burly bald guy, his new drummer, put on a great show. The new bassist is hot! She did a terrific solo. Beck, backed by an orchestra, mixed some old and new. There was one song, perhaps from the new album, that was a bit slow for me, but the set was great. Before Anthony Jeselnik came out for an acoustic set, there was a 20-30 break. I could have skipped that. Jeselnik was growing his hair out, and it looked like a page-boy cut. Not good. But his voice and playing were great. The band got up and did some electric rocking, then Beck came back out. Sadly, no Yardbird songs. They played only one encore song. The highlights were Beck's A Day In The Life and Beck/Jeselnik doing Sly and the Family Stone: the only lyrics were Jeselnik stepping up to the mike singing "boom shackalackalacka boom shackalackalacka.
